The Begining of my Christmas madness!!!
So, I haven't made much progress on my blanket, the one I was going to have done in August. I think it might be because I am a terrible person. or a procrastinator... although, to be fair, I can't really work on it at work, the last two squares are killing me (I saved the hardest for last, because I thought it would be a good idea) and the cats like to help with the embroidery. But computer games might also have something to do with it. Hmmmm.
Anyway, I have begun my Christmas knitting, both the ever changing list, and the actual knitting part, and here is the list, so, you can check them off with me.
(must happen)
1. Dad - socks, these seem to go over well, are always useful, and keep me from buying him something funny. So, this year... 49er (ish) colors... really they are the Washington Cougars colors, but close enough, next time, I might hand dye my own yarn, but I am fighting with some hand dyed sock yarn right now, and I am not enthusiastic.
2. Dawn - she asked for leg warmers, these I think I will have to dye the yarn for, she wants purple and green... and I know the colors she means and this season they are out of style... I can get good purples, but the greens are all too sagey. I even looked for an acrylic wool blend (gasp) to no avail. To the dye pot with me.
3. This goodnight moon blanket. I really just need a weekend in my room with good entertainment... it might mean a book on tape instead of a dvd... but I need to hole up somewhere.
(highly desirable to happen)
4. Socks for Cindy Tewes - she asked so nice... and after I knit her socks I can feel no guilt for the other actor requests of knitted goods.
5. Socks for Ian (goodnight moon blanket baby) and his parents... I already have the yarn for this.
(First to get dumped off this list if time seems short)
6. Sock monkeys for Dennis and Christina... I will do them, just might not be in time for christmas.... you see, I have this glow in the dark yarn and I know just where to add it... these might be fun little projects, but I must not get distracted.
there are other people, but the rate this blanket is going, I am thinking gift certificates.
on another note, I made a shrug for wearing backstage while I was backstage, its black alpaca. and cozy. I will post pictures later.

Pet My Monkey
Sideways monkey... makes you off balance don't it?
Hanging monkey, named Hank, not Chad.
Adorable monkey! I learned about this monkey from the Yarn Harlot Sock Camp entries, (they start at April 20) and I bought the pattern from Blue Moon Fiber Arts.
He is an only monkey. I used his leftovers to make socks, and the still remaining pink, gonna be an ipod cozy.

Another thing while I was on a break
I can't tell you how hard it is to take pictures of a hat on your own head. This ended up being mostly back. though, not a terrible picture.
a little more close up, this hat spirals up, and again the colors are better in real life, at least I think so,
the colors are a little better in this one, I love the colors in Noro.
So, the blanket is sort of on hold at present, its almost all detail work, complicated knitting, or getting bulky, so I can't work on it at work, or at least during tech. Damn it!

While I was on a "break"
So, I made socks from the remaining yarn from the Sock Monkey Kit. I guess I could have made more, but, I like socks too, and I was feeling like I needed new ones.
I pretty much used up all of the purple yarn, now I just have pink, and maybe not enough to make socks for me. Its possible little Anne, Megan's baby might get some socks. I would make them for Ian, but people are still pretty touchy about pink for boys, you can have blue for girls, but not pink for boys. Silly.

Blanket Update
so, I have started putting the blanket together, even though I have 2 squares to finish, I am also trying to put the finishing touches on each block before I join them.
Its crazy how much a little black embroidery thread makes this look more like a bear!
I am going to keep the tail loose on this little guy. 'Cause I think its funny.
Whats amazing to me here, is how in reality the green I picked is way too dark, but here it looks almost exactly the right color. I don't know what is the matter with my camera that the colors aren't true, but oh well.
This is the beginning of square number 19, its soooo many strands of yarn all at once, that I cannot work on it at work... which is another reason to finish up the other ones.

Things I knit while on break from the Blanket
So, I couldn't knit the Goodnight Moon Blanket all the time, so here are the things I did while on a little Break. This is Neal, he was in Little Dog Laughed, and we traded, he made me delicious cookies, and I made him this hat. Its called Irish walking hat, pretty easy, little bit of cabling.
The yarn is Berocco Alpaca, and it was shockingly inexpensive, and nice.
Here is Neal, giving me his debonair look, actors are funny.

5 more completed blocks
so, here are the 5 additional blocks I have completed. We have air.
the red balloon, the yarn for the balloon is a red silk ribbon.
next we have the brush and the comb. Some blocks will need more embroidery than others
After that, we have a block I am very proud of, the old lady, I will be adding a little bit of knitting for her.
and Last but not least, Nobody, almost everyones favorite part of the book.

Goodnight Moon Blanket, part one
So, this is my very first post on my new "Knitting" blog.
In April, I started this intarsia blanket for my 'nephew' who turned 2 this August, I missed the deadline, but I tried pretty hard. When it became very clear I was going to miss the deadline, I did take a little break to knit a pair of socks, a hat for myself and a hat for an actor in the play I am working on right now. I'll post them later.
But anyway, I really decided to start this when I realized how many people have seen me working on this blanket, who then must go home because the play we were working on was over. Very Sad. So, here are 14 of the 18 blocks I have finished so far, the other 4 are lost in my computer at the moment ( I guess I should remember to Label Photos, so I can find stuff)
nothing has been embroidered as yet. so the bears will get more detail, and I will add a tail to the cow. I like the 2 color thing on the cow and moon... or lets just say, I don't hate it.
the house,
the telephone
the clock,
I have number buttons.
then we have mush (my favorite), mittens, lamp, socks, stars, moon, mouse and kittnens.... I seem to have lost air, while I was writing text. Strange.... blogging hard.
