I was going to post more photos today, but I think you have to wait until tomorrow. I am going to make corn salad and gazpacho instead, oh... And take a bath. And work. And nap.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Part 2

Anna Karenina
on a completely different note, and as an interruption to the Aquarium pictures.
Yesterday was my mom's birthday.
I sent her a present - pretty handmade earrings from my favorite store (Library Friends Store) and a cool bookmark, because I would hope she is still reading.
And I called her, twice because I just left a message on mothers day, and I thought actually talking to her might be nice, after the second call she called me back.
Here is what I got out of the conversation - the earrings were too orange, and she had lots of earrings so - she doubted she would ever wear them - and she would never try to visit since I never invited her to see my apartment when they came up to visit 6 years ago. I will admit I felt strange not inviting her in at the time, but the roommate was scared of meeting her, and the place is a dump, and who needs to be judged. What I was thinking on the phone was no one invites a vampire into their house.
Terrible - I know.
On an only vaguely connected way - I read my fourth memoir in about a year House of Happy Endings by Leslie Garis granddaughter of the author of Uncle Wiggily. (I found this by looking for Uncle Wiggily stories on the internet).
And this leads me to a quote- Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Anna Karenina

My Trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium Part 1
while I think the design idea of the exhibit was to emulate the graphic design of the 50's and 60's space age and age of the future - the posters felt a bit too much like propaganda - even if your facts are true - propaganda feels like lying.
It also doesn't help the cause that many of the fancy things they promised us never came to pass, unlike the grittier visions of the future from the 80's and 90's - I have a fancy phone and an ipad with a crazy cool touch screen, but no robot in my kitchen.

A big catching up?
So, I haven't posted a real post in... ah... awhile... er... April?
I can't remember if anything super exciting happened in May... oh... I worked the load in and load out for Mary Poppins, and made a tiny bit of money... and sadly of course Carroll Briggs passed away.
In June I visited California around fathers day, and that was a bit more exciting. I flew into to SFO and Barted out to Antioch, for a few days with the Father... it was nice though I think he got tired of me towards the end, contrarian that I am, but we had some nice conversations and then, he drove me down to Salinas.
I had thought to take dear old dad to the aquarium, but he didn't want to go, I might have been forcing my will on him, and it was for the best in the end, as one exhibit was about the vanishing wetlands and there was a very over the top climate change propoganda posters... I believe in climate change, but these were a bit much. It was super cool to go to the aquarium, I'm not sure when I last went, but surely before I moved away?
After that, another highlight was buying too much salt water taffy.
Summerbash at Rancho Gromek was nice, and mellow, Sabine and I had planned to write a page in the book about Carroll, but its still a tiny bit hard, I just misted up now... but we will.
Following all that I got a ride on Sunday to a BART station, and my last final California trip act was to have dinner with Jon and Meaghan, at a crepe place, followed by tasty ice cream.
I only took pictures of the Aquarium... and a couple of Maia. I'll try to be better...
the rest of this week I will post aquarium pictures.

Very naughty
I was very bad today... But I am posting this on my new iPad. I couldn't help myself, I had been thinking of it for quite sometime, over a year at least, and we have decided to wait to move for a few months, and I had some savings.... So, here we are... What pushed me over the edge? Well, the fact that I can get everyone's eReader as an application, and not have to commit to just one digital book company. Coupling this with the fact that I was determined to buy the new George RR Martin book as a digital copy- now I could have got it and read the book on my phone, and I thought about it, I really did. But the screen is so small, and with the iPad the screen can be either trade paperback size, or regular paperback size. I am a very good rationalizer -
I can also watch Netflix and other streaming media, I only got the wi-fi version, since we have a router anyway.
Already, I have downloaded about 8 free books- where the copyright has expired, many imputed by volunteers. 4 uncle wiggily story books, 2 Edith Nesbit books, an Andre Norton short story and a PK Dick short story.
I can pretend this is going to save me money... Maybe it will... Eventually... But it will certainly save me some space... Maybe....
But I do think I can start reading A Dance With Dragons at 12:10 am on the Tuesday.
Real update soon, I promise.

but if you have any particular questions....
it might be actually helpful...
